About Us

We’re not winemaking royalty. We didn’t grow up in vineyards or inherit a centuries-old chateau (though we wouldn't have said no). Prelude Wines began, quite simply, with curiosity—and a lot of tasting.

Over fifteen years ago, we fell in love with Virginia wine. What started as weekend winery visits quickly turned into weekends spent offering free labor to anyone who’d let us in the cellar. From 2014 to 2017, we scrubbed tanks, sorted grapes, and soaked up everything we could. In 2018, we earned our WSET certifications and finally made it official in 2023 with a Virginia farm winery license.

Prelude Wines is our way of saying: this is just the beginning. Right now, we’re a licensed winery producing custom crush wines while we prepare for the next chapter—planting and cultivating our own vineyard. The name Prelude honors both that future and the belief that every great bottle begins in the vineyard, long before the cork is popped.

We drink wines from all over the world, but Virginia holds our hearts. Its wines are full of character—bridging old world elegance with new world spirit—and we’re proud to be part of a growing community of makers and drinkers who believe in what this region can offer.

We don’t take ourselves too seriously. But we take wine seriously enough to believe that it deserves your attention, your time, and ideally, a good sunset and great company.
